Obituary
Sandra was born on February 03, 1948, in
Minden, Louisiana to L.G. Abner and Corean
C. Abner. She was the oldest of five
children.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was
baptized at Greenville Baptist Church under
the leadership of Rev Issac Harris,
Couchwood, Louisiana.
Sandra was educated in the Webster Parish
School System, graduating from Webster High
School in 1966. She furthered her education
by attending Grambling State University
where she met her husband, Henry Garner and
went on to received Bachelor of Art degree
in English. To this union a son was born,
Henry A. Garner, Jr. Never being satisfied
in the education arena, she later attended
La Tech University where she received an
Master of Art degree and a +30 in education.
Upon moving back to Ruston, Sandra and her
family united with the Pilgrims Rest Baptist
Church under the leadership of the late
Reverend C. L. Oliver and later under the
leadership of Reverend Brandon J. Crew,
where she served faithfully on the Group
Mission Ministry, the Mother Board, the
Youth Ministry, as a Pastor’s Aid and as an
Announcement Secretary.
After 40 years in the field as a
professional educator Sandra was dedicated
to teaching/aiding the youth in both the
public school system as well as the youth
ministry.
She was unexpectedly called home by the Lord
after a brief illness on Tuesday, April 27,
2021. She is preceded in death by her
Father, L.G. Abner, mother, Corean C. Abner,
husband, Henry Garner and brother, Johnny
Abner.
Left to cherish her memories are her son,
Henry Garner, Jr., her devoted brothers,
Elgie Abner (Rosa), Gerald Abner (Shirley),
Milton Abner, a very special friend, Ted
Minniefield and a host of nieces, nephews
and other relatives and friends.
