It is with great sadness that I learned of Dr.
George Wimbush’s death. He was a man of wonderful
character. Dr. Wimbush was more than just a
Professor and Chairperson of Mathematics at VSU, he
was family. As a physics major, I was required to
take many mathematics classes. The invisible bond
that the physics and math departments shared for
many years under the leadership of Dr. James
Davenport (physics) and Dr. George Wimbush (math)
played a great role in my development as a
scientist/analyst.
Dr. Wimbush always had encouraging words of wisdom
to share with his many students. He served as a
mentor to so many of us. He was an outstanding
mathematician that has left a legacy that will cross
many generations for many years to come. I can still
remember sitting in his Calculus 300 Class in the
mid-
1990s. I am forever grateful to him along with my
other professors for the superior and all
encompassing education that has made me the person I
am today.
The family has my sincere condolences.
“ Blessed are those who mourn, for they will
be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4,NIV)
There is a time for everything, and a season for
every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
(Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 NIV) |
